This is a mekitsa.
A mekitsa (мекица, plural мекици) is a traditional Bulgarian yeast-less fried dough made with flour, yogurt, eggs and a pinch of baking soda. Crisp on the outside, pillow-soft on the inside — and an institution on Bulgarian Sunday mornings.
At Mekitsa & Coffee we honor that tradition but play with fillings: honey and walnuts sit next to Nutella and banana, feta and raspberry jam, or blueberry cheesecake.
